Identity of the woman be-headed by Muslims in Kano revealed - She is Igbo Woman and Pastor's Wife

Lawyer and poet Abdul Mahmud disclosed the identity of the woman who was beheaded in Kano over alleged blasphemy. See the screenshot.

Bridget Patience was beheaded by angry Muslim youths in Wambai market in Kano yesterday evening, June 2, for allegedly making blasphemous comments about Prophet Muhammad.

On Thursday, June 2, 2016, a trader woman, Bridget Agbaheme, was reported to have been beheaded by a mob in Kano based on allegations of 'blasphemy'!
According to reports, the incident occurred about 4:30 pm when there was a disagreement between the murdered woman and some traders. The woman was said to have blasphemed Prophet Mohammed, which did not go down well with the people and they decided to take the law into their hands and murder her.

Mrs Bridget Agbaheme was a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who, according to the nation's constitution, was guaranteed certain fundamental liberties and freedoms which has now been denied her with her life being taken in the process. Chapter 1 Section 10 of the Constitution states that "The Government of the Federation or of a State shall not adopt any religion as State Religion.".

Beyond this, the Nigerian Constitution also makes explicit provision for the following;

1. According to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Chapter IV Section 33 (1) - Every person has a right to life, and no one shall be deprived intentionally of his life, save in execution of the sentence of a court in respect of a criminal offence of which he has been found guilty in Nigeria. Mrs Bridget Agbaheme was denied this fundamental right and was duly murdered in cold blood by other citizens in direct contravention of the law of the land.

2. According to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Chapter IV Section 39 (1) - Every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference. Regardless of the accusations, Mrs Bridget Agbaheme was unlawfully murdered and denied this fundamental freedom of expression.

3. According to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Chapter IV Section 36 (1) -  In the determination of civil rights and obligations, including any question or determination by or against any government or authority, a person shall be entitled to a fair hearing within a reasonable time by a court or other tribunal established by law and constituted in such manner as to secure its independence and impartiality. Mrs Bridget Agbaheme was denied her right to fair hearing to determine if there was any grounds for the charges brought against her.

4. According to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Chapter IV Section 38 (1) - Every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance. Mrs Bridget Agbaheme was persecuted and murdered because expressly because of her views which is a direct infringement of her fundamental human right as guaranteed by the nation's constitution.
For far too long, Nigerian leaders and law enforcement institutions have been negligent in their duties towards Nigerian citizens thus surreptitiously allowing unlawful religious motives coupled with brash mob actions to determine the tone, character and balance of our society rather than the rule of law! It goes without saying that Mrs Bridget Agbaheme was murdered in cold blood in the most grievous and unlawfully manner, beyond which her body and remains was subjected to indignity and heinous treatment. All these was done in broad daylight and in public spaces!

We, the citizens of Nigeria, outrightly condemn the extrajudicial murder of Mrs. Bridget Agbaheme and we call on the authorities to take every step necessary to properly investigate the incident, holding the perpetrators and all those responsible for the mob's action accountable for their actions. We demand Justice for Bridget Agbaheme and we demand that those who have acted with impunity in direct contravention of the laws of the land be brought to justice without respect to person. We demand that justice be served. We demand that justice prevail!
